John Charter is from the Northern California farm town of Colusa, California, where his family has farmed rice and almonds for many generations. At an early age he began developing his artistic eye with the creation of numerous surreal drawings and impressionist paintings, eventually winning Best of Show at the California State Fair in 2000. By age seven he also started making movies with his family’s video camera.

Today he continues to pursue his passion for filmmaking as an art. In 2005 he graduated Summa Cum Laude at California State University, Monterey Bay, with a Degree in Film and a Minor in Business. He was Director and Cinematographer for his thesis film, Old Soul, which was selected for Scottsdale Int. Film Fest and was one of eight international films in the "World's Greatest Shorts" category at Sacramento Int. Film Fest.

Now he works as a freelance Cinematographer in Los Angeles and he is in development for his first feature as Director.
